Every film you’ve seen.
Every disc you own.
Movie Grip is a viewing diary and a physical-media catalogue in one app. Log what you watched and when. Keep track of what is on the shelf, which format it is in, and who still has your copy.
Version 1.3 is in testing on iOS. The App Store release is next.
What it keeps track of
Most film apps assume everything you watch arrives over the internet. This one also assumes you have a shelf.
Graded mint through poor, by region, in whatever format you found it in.
- Stubs
- Log a film the day you watch it: the date, a rating out of five, as much or as little as you want to write, and where you saw it. Mark it as a rewatch, and tag the night — date night, family, first time — so you can find it again.
- Collection
- Catalogue what you actually own. Each disc carries its format, condition, region, what you paid for it, the shelf it lives on, and whether it is a special edition. Record the barcode if you want the box checked off properly.
- Loans
- When someone borrows a disc, note who took it and when it is due back. The copy stays in your collection, flagged as out, so the gap on the shelf has a name attached to it.
- Watchlist
- A queue you order by hand, with high, medium and low priority, and room for a note about why something is on there.
- Lists
- Group films however you like — ranked or unranked, with a note on each pick. Keep a list private, or mark it public.
- Discover
- Search anything in The Movie Database and see at a glance what you have already watched, liked, or own a copy of.
Where your data goes
Nowhere. There is no analytics in this app, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. Nobody is buying a profile of what you watch, because nobody is being sent one.
Your diary, your shelf and your lists sit in one database on one server. Film and television details are looked up through our own API, so The Movie Database sees a request from the server and never sees you. Lists stay private unless you mark one public.

Movie Grip is on iOS and in testing now. If you want a build, send a note and you will get a TestFlight invite.
